How not to be a money launderer: back in print via Kindle

Hong Kong: 14th February 2009 How not to be a money launderer, the ground-breaking book that introduced the concepts of risk management to counter-money laundering strategies and argued that compliance is not enough is again available thanks to Amazon's Kindle and Kindle for PC.

Author Nigel Morris-Cotterill, who wrote the first edition in 1996 with the second edition appearing in early 1999, said in the introduction to the book that he would be delighted if he saw an oily dog-eared copy of the book in a car workshop. It has taken almost a decade before legislators got around to requiring counter-money laundering strategies in car dealers - and then only in limited circumstances.

The book is not jurisdiction specific: it drew attention to global risks, trends and management approaches and explained how laws in various countries compared - and contrasted with the gaps allowing arbitrage by money launderers.

Morris-Cotterill explained how geo-political and economic shifts would offer opportunities for money launderers - and he offered a time-frame of a quarter of a century for some of those changes to come into full effect. Now, half-way through that period, several of those changes are taking shape - and others have already happened.

"A law book" but not as we know it," How not to be a money launderer became a book of choice at intelligence agencies in several countries for its easy to read but no nonsense style.

The book sold out both of its print runs. One professional journal wrote "the book everyone in practice should read."

The book found its way into the libraries of professional bodies, and the offices of many consulting firms.

As Morris-Cotterill said on the launch of the Kindle Edition to celebrate Chinese New Year 2010, "it's just so you know, we wrote the book."

The e-book edition is the second edition with the appendix containing (now out of date) legislation removed.

The e-book version is available for both the Kindle reading device and the Kindle PC reader for those who don't own or can't download to a Kindle device.
